Assistant Director on Early Childhood

Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

Becker School, a well-established early childhood program at Congregation Emanu El in Houston, Texas, seeks an experienced and innovative Assistant Director. Our center has 15 classrooms and provides a loving and nurturing environment for students 15 months- Kindergarten. We also offer early/late care and camp during the summer.

The ideal candidate will be a creative, motivated, and nurturing professional who demonstrates excellent management and interpersonal skills, is passionate about early childhood education, has experience with the Reggio Emilia philosophy and Jewish heritage/education, and is able to promote and support a warm, safe, and stimulating educational environment that honors each child. The candidate should be able to interact well with teachers and staff as well as inspire and excite parents, students, and teachers to reach new heights of learning.

Responsibilities include:
• Foster a nurturing and caring school atmosphere inclusive of learners of all abilities
• Lead and inspire staff to embrace the school’s vision of the child and education based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy
• Demonstrate and model dedication to own professional development
• Maintain relationship with Reggio-inspired school consortium
• Work to achieve IB Accreditation for 3s thru kindergarten
• Ensure an engaging climate that attracts, motivates, and supports a talented, diverse staff to effectively execute curriculum
• Model and be an example of a team player with a passion for early childhood education
• Develop and coordinate new teacher orientation and plan ongoing mentoring for new teachers
• Establish relationships with teachers and organize ongoing professional development and support
• Evaluate current curriculum and adapt to reflect best practices for developmentally appropriate learning that fits the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
• Work closely with the Pedagogista and Atelierista to create innovative ideas based on collaboration with teachers.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher, Early Childhood Education or related field preferred
• 5-7 years’ experience in early childhood education
• Experience working with the Reggio Emilia philosophy
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Organized, able to multi-task, problem solve, and be flexible

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $50,000-$55,000 per year
