Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

Scope of Work:
The Assistant Program Director reports to the Program Director (PD) and assists the PD in all operations of the organization in order to maintain a comprehensive, high quality and developmentally appropriate early childhood education and social service programs consistent with all regulatory and funding bodies. This is a management position.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Support PD with program operations and ensure that the HFDH Vision, Values and Mission of the organization inform operational decision-making and recommendations for policy change.
• Orient, train, and develop the Program teaching staff. Support the classrooms and Program with outside consultants and experts.
• Directly supervise all of the Support Staff/Floaters and Parent & Education Advocate (PEA).
• In conjunction with the PEA, ensure that all Individualized Education Plans (IEP/IFSP) are initiated, followed up with and processes for ensuring compliance are in place.
• Manage curriculum planning, and documentation of learning in the classroom and connecting to DRDP assessments, newsletters, environment, and art studio implementation.
• In conjunction with the PD, assess teaching staff training needs, and design and implement training programs to meet those needs. Can involve the use of outside groups such as First 5.
• Serve as a liaison with families. Get to know which children belong to which parents/guardians and develop a rapport to facilitate any communications with them you may need to have.
• Always with a vision to obtain and maintain national accreditation for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program and the highest known standards in social service practices, develop and regularly monitor systems to ensure all quality assurance practices; regulatory agency requirements; program operation; timely and comprehensive child and family intake and regular assessments; and service and curriculum development especially in response to changing trends in the field of ECE, changing concerns and needs of participating families, and changing program priorities.
• Works with the Administration Team to ensure timely, accurate and comprehensive systems for contract management, reporting and renewals, and all other related administrative reporting and functions assigned.
• Ensure the empowerment of, and good communication among, all employees and teams of the organization and all program funders and other related stakeholders.
• Assist the PD and Operations Manager, to ensure the management of all aspects of human resources as they relate to teaching staff including, but not limited to, recruitment, orientation, policy recommendations to the PD and implementation, staff morale, conflict resolution, evaluating performance, progressive discipline, hiring and firing.
• In collaboration with the Facilities Manager ensure the health and safety of all utilizing the facility at 299 Dolores Street, and ensure a well-maintained, clean, organized and orderly environment.
• Represent HFDH in the broader community of neighbors, childcare providers, family service providers, Program and Planning Committee of the Board of Directors, funders, etc. as assigned.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
• BA with 24 ECE/CD units (inc. core); +6 units administration; +2 units adult supervision
(Core courses = Child Growth & Development; Child/Family/Community and Programs/Curriculum) or Master’s Degree with Major in ECE; plus hold or be eligible for Program Director Permit.
• Experience: 5 years of site supervisor experience at a large non-profit childcare program.
• Demonstrated commitment to the Vision, Values and Mission of Holy Family Day Home.
• Demonstrated commitment to Reggio Emilia teaching approach.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a culturally and educationally diverse staff and program clientele, and to maintain systems for open communication.
• Demonstrated ability to administer a program and budget of comparable scope and complexity.
• Sensitivity to the individual and group needs of the children, parents and staff.
• Demonstrated good judgment and management of crisis situations.
• Ability to speak, read and write the English Language.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish or Chinese Dialects or Tagalog preferred.
• Knowledge of low-income and homeless issues for children and families preferred.
• Computer Technology proficiency
• Fingerprints clearance through Department of Justice for Child Abuse Index Check and Criminal Record Statement.

Salary & Benefits

Job Hours: Full Time (Exempt)
Job Site Location: 299 Dolores Street
Supervised by: Program Director
Salary: Depends on Experience (DOE) with health insurance, dental, chiro/acupuncture, life insurance, 403B Retirement plan, commuter vouchers and generous PTO.
