Berea College’s Department of Child and Family Studies invites applications for the position of Director of Boyd and Gaynell Fowler Child Development Laboratory (CDL); this is a 12 month position available May 1, 2019. The Boyd and Gaynell Fowler Child Development Laboratory is administratively located within the Child and Family Studies (CFS) department, which promotes educational experiences that lead to the enrichment of individual and family life, promote critical thinking, and prepare students for graduate education and/or professional employment. It commits itself to upholding the Great Commitments of the College in each facet of its mission.
Responsibilities include directing day to day operations of the CDL which serves 130 children, ages 6 weeks through 5 years; maintaining compliance with all licensing, NAEYC accreditation and other applicable regulations; supervising staff and labor students; coordinating lab observations and participation with college faculty and students from various disciplines whose coursework focuses on children ages birth through five years; collaborating with faculty to support research; demonstrate commitment to building and maintaining a diverse community,maintaining effective communication with families of children enrolled as well as college faculty; oversite of the CDL budget and fee collection; serving as the primary point of contact between the CDL and other campus units, such as Academic Affairs, Physical Plant, Human Resources, and Campus Security.
Applicants must hold the following qualifications: a Master’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education or related field; some coursework in administration or business management, and at least 3 years experience in early childhood education with administrative responsibilities.
