Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

Director of Gan HaYeled Preschool
at Adas Israel
Adas Israel is a growing 1600 household Conservative synagogue in the heart of Washington, DC. Gan HaYeled is an integral part of the congregation and a leading early childhood program in the DC metropolitan area. Established in 1972, the Gan’s work is rooted in middot and mitzvot, Jewish morals and values. As an accredited NAEYC preschool, the Gan provides both full- and part-day programs for 157 children and is an inclusive school community, where all children and families are embraced. The Gan welcomes members of Adas Israel, as well as Jewish and non-Jewish families in the greater DC community. Our diverse and creative teachers respect and honor young children, nurturing and supporting them to reach their full potential.
The Gan is a progressive early childhood school taking inspiration from constructivist theory, Piaget, and Reggio Emilia philosophy, as well as the growing knowledge of research-based best practices within early childhood education. The Assistant Director, Developmental Support Specialist, Administrative Assistant, teaching staff of 45, and specialists work together with the Director to support the belief that play is the work of young children. A wealth of materials, both natural and man-made, enable children to experiment, gain competency, and develop their sense of self. The Gan emphasizes social and emotional growth along with cognitive stimulation. Our mission is to provide the foundation for young families to form their identity, while supporting children’s natural curiosity.
