St. Margaret’s Episcopal School’s Early Childhood division seeks a full time Atelierista. As a member of a highly collaborative team of educators and staff who are motivated and dedicated, the Atelierista/Studio Teacher nurtures young children ages 3-5, with enhancements for infants and toddlers. The Atelierista/Studio Teacher will provide an organized environment rich with materials that provoke opportunities for children to relate and interact in spontaneous, self-directed ways. The classroom and school environment should be beautiful, organized and supportive of the highest potential of young children and their work. The Atelierista/Studio Teacher will support not only the child’s creative growth, but promote their physical, mental, social, and emotional growth.
Prime responsibilities include the following:
-Assumes the responsibility of teacher and promotes the role of fine arts as an integral part of a Reggio-inspired program.
-Works directly with students and will also support and guide classroom teachers in the use of rich materials such as clay, wire, and other media.
-Works alongside children in the classrooms and in the Atelier, providing rich experiences through provocations and experiences.
-Provides documentation to make learning visible.
Ideal candidates will have the following background:
-Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Early Childhood Education or a Bachelor’s Degree plus an ECE Certificate. A background in fine arts is preferred.
-State of California Child Development Permit, Teacher or Master Teacher Level is recommended.
-Knowledge and experience in the Reggio Emilia Approach, developmentally appropriate practices, and a demonstrated potential for teaching excellence.
-Experience in using various technology tools.
