Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

Abeona House is seeking an Executive Director who will lead a program of 60 families and staff of 15 teachers in high quality classroom engagement and continued professional development with strong licensing practices. The Executive Director’s mission is to be the heart of Abeona House: to lead, guide, and nourish our school to greater success in pursuit of providing exceptional child care to our families, being an excellent and just employer, and being an exemplar of quality early childhood education to the Greater New Orleans community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
● Reinvigorate the school’s Reggio Emilia philosophy
● Increase grassroots parental involvement
● Oversee school budget and finances
● Serve as a liaison to the Board, which includes attending board meetings, providing reports of achieved
outcomes, and participating in visioning discussions.
● Instill and maintain culture of inclusivity
● Maintain full enrollment and a deep, diverse waitlist
● Maintain compliance with licensing and regulatory bodies
● Manage and coach professional staff

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Child care is a multi-faceted, challenging profession, and successful candidates may come with a variety of backgrounds, including experience running a children's program or licensed child care center, roles supporting parents and teachers, work with nonprofit boards,a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related
field, or a teaching certificate. Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia approach is a plus.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PER THE LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND
FAMILY SERVICES:
A. The director/director designee shall be at least 21 years of age.
B. The director/director designee shall have documentation of at least one of the following upon date of hire as director or
director designee:
1. a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 12 credit hours of child development or early
childhood education or elementary education or a related field, and one year of experience in a licensed early learning center or
comparable setting, subject to approval by the Licensing Division;
2. an associate of arts degree in child development or a closely related area, and one year of experience in a licensed early
learning center, or comparable setting, subject to approval by the Licensing Division;
3. a national administrator credential and one year experience in a licensed early learning center, or comparable setting, plus 6
credit hours in child care, child development or early childhood or 90 clock hours of training in child care, child development or
early childhood, subject to approval by the Licensing Division;
4. a child development associate credential (CDA) and one year of experience in a licensed early learning center, or
comparable setting, subject to approval by the Licensing Division;
5. a diploma from a post-secondary technical early childhood education training program approved by the Board of Regents or
correspondence course approved by the Licensing Division and one year of experience in a licensed early learning center, or
comparable setting, subject to approval by the Licensing Division; or
6. three years of experience as a director or staff in a licensed early learning center, or comparable setting, subject to approval
by the Licensing Division; plus 6 credit hours in child care, child development or early childhood education, or 90 clock hours of
training approved by the Licensing Division. Up to 3 credit hours or 45 clock hours may be in management/administration
education.

Salary & Benefits

The Executive Director role is a full-time, salaried position. Salary is commensurate with experience, and ranges from $55,000-$65,000 per year. Abeona House employees enjoy 18 paid holidays per year and paid time off. Other benefits to be negotiated.

Program Description

Abeona House Child Discovery Center is a non-profit early childhood care and education center inspired by the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy. Named after the Roman goddess of children leaving home for the first time, Abeona House was founded in 2006 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Abeona House seeks to serve a student body representing the racial and socioeconomic diversity of the Greater New Orleans community with joy, equity, and love.
