Program Description

Educare California at Silicon Valley (ECSV), located in San Jose, serves as a model early learning school and is developing the region’s leading professional development and research institute. Opened in 2015, ECSV is a laboratory for teacher training and high-quality early learning. Teachers work with children to develop literacy and early math skills, as well as social-emotional skills: the ability to focus on a task, persistence, impulse control and cooperation with peers.

With the opportunity to influence over 3 million children in the region, ECSV serves as a platform for broader change: disseminating best practices across Santa Clara County and California, advocating for more effective public policy choices, and inspiring a comprehensive approach to the first five years of life and learning.

The 34,000-square-foot state-of-the-art ECSV facility is located on the campus of Santee Elementary School in the Franklin-McKinley School District. It houses multiple programs including the Educare School for children ages 0-5, a Family Resource Center, and a Professional Development Institute. Each program is operated by one or more partner agencies who are responsible for the management and supervision of their program/s. Over the last five years, the operating partners have been working together to bring the Educare model to California and all deeply believe in, and are committed to, early learning, collaborating effectively to make ECSV a model program.
ECSV is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of executive level representatives of its partner agencies (FIRST 5 Santa Clara County, the Santa Clara County Office of Education, Franklin-McKinley School District, East Side Union High School District, First 5 California, Kidango, and Catholic Charities) and philanthropies (the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Scott Foundation, and the Buffett Early Childhood Fund).
