Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

Are you a reflective, experienced teacher who is interested in helping to shape a new progressive school for children ages 12 weeks through 6 years old? If so, Seeds of Wonder Journey School is looking for you! If you are an educator with a passion for working with young children and their families AND you have the drive and dedication to join a team of professional, collaborative educators in crafting a brand new Reggio inspired school to serve the Northern suburbs of Atlanta, then Seeds of Wonder Journey School invites you to submit your resume for consideration!

Seeds of Wonder plans to open in August of 2018 with 4 classrooms, and grow to up to 9 classrooms over the next 3 years. We will begin with one infant room, one toddler room, a young preschool room, and a mixed-age (3’s-4’s) PreK classroom.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape the foundation of a new school…and to make a difference in the lives of the children and families with whom we will work.

Working Mission: We respect childhood as sacred time. Children explore and learn about their world by engaging their natural curiosities and creativity and are guided to become socially capable problem solvers. Seeds of Wonder believes in partnering with children, families, and the community to provide an inquiry-and-play-based curriculum for our youngest citizens.

Our goal is to open a progressive preschool to serve the East Cobb and Roswell communities. While we are in the very beginning planning stages, we believe there is a strong need for this type of program in our area. Families would have the option of enrolling your child either full time or part time. Seeds of Wonder will be ideal for families who are looking for a loving, respectful, high quality environment where children learn and develop through inquiry and play. Our school philosophy is inspired by the schools for young children in Reggio Emilia, Italy and is influenced by Constructivist Theory and Howard Gardener’s theory of Multiple Intelligences. We seek to create a diverse community by valuing and honoring children and families of all backgrounds.

We believe in advocating for our youngest citizens and modeling for them how to find their voice in the world. We believe in giving a voice to socially liberal causes, including feminism, reproductive rights, and black lives matter. We deeply support the LGBTQ community, people of color and of all religious backgrounds, immigrants (both refugees and otherwise), and any otherwise disenfranchised communities and families. We welcome polite, progressive, and helpful discussion around these subjects within the Seeds of Wonder community, with the intention of learning more about one another and our values, and always for the benefit of the children in our care.

We are currently gathering resumes, and we will begin to contact teaching candidates for interviews in early May!

Program Description

Progressive ~ Child-Centered ~ Play Based ~ Emotionally Responsive

The care and learning that happen in the Early Childhood years set the tone for an individual’s growth as a lifelong learner and as a member of a larger community. This is true not only for our children, but also for their families and for teachers. Families are seeking a community within which they can form relationships and grow, and the preschool is perfectly suited to provide that community.

Children are competent and capable and succeed when they are able to be co-constructors of their learning experience in an environment that speaks to their interests in an authentic way. Each child is uniquely created; our role as educators is to support each child’s development, learning and well-being. It is important that every teacher understands how to take time to listen to each child’s melody and that each teacher feels supported along his or her own professional journey to best serve the children and families with whom we work. We educate each child according to his/her own way. Our collective job is to nurture each child’s ability so that the child can grow and learn, and the school leadership does the same for the teachers and families.

Our teachers will have a genuine respect for the children as individuals, and for the children’s families, as the children’s first teachers. They should be able to work well within a collaborative environment, within a community of critical colleagues who push each other and constantly strive for excellence together.

We believe in meeting all children and families and supporting them “where they are.” This strategy requires that teachers and administrators know the child well and have good communication with the child’s family. Our emotionally responsive school puts children at the center of all partnerships – teacher/child, parent/child, parent/teacher – each of these is a partnership, and each holds at its heart promise of expectations to fulfill.

In preschool, the continuum of developmentally appropriate expectations for our youngest students means that each child will be taught according to his or her unique learning style, and children are valued in their differences. This attitude supports the process of assisting each child in developing self-knowledge and insight about his/her own learning style, interests, and strengths. An essential component of our philosophy is the creation of a community of caring adults who value and understand children AND each child, and who, in turn, feels supported in their roles as parents or teachers.

Our founders are a team of skilled educators with a passion for childhood and with more than 60 years of Early Childhood Education experience between us, including teaching, administration, and supporting children with special needs. We deeply believe in supporting socially liberal causes, including feminism, reproductive rights, and black lives matter, in advocating for our youngest citizens and modeling for them how to find their voice in the world. We stand with the LGBTQ+ community, people of color and of all religious backgrounds, immigrants (both refugees and otherwise), and any otherwise disenfranchised communities and families. We welcome polite, progressive, and helpful discussion around these subjects within the Seeds of Wonder community, with the intention of learning more about one another and our values, and always for the benefit of the children in our care.
