Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

Elmhurst Academy is currently seeking a full time Kindergarten Teacher in our private, independent, Reggio Emilia inspired, early childhood school.

The academy seeks educators who are passionate, creative, intentional, and reflective in their work with children. We seek teachers who are eager to grow their practice as researchers, learners, facilitators and collaborators with children.

Classroom teachers plan, prepare and deliver academic lessons in literacy, spelling and poetry, guided reading, math, science, social and cultural studies, entrepreneurship and projects with a strong emphasis on STEM and Partnership for 21st Century Learning Skills. Specialist teachers in world language, design/technology, dance and movement, music, woodworking, environmental studies and art enhance our kindergarten program.

Our kindergarten program facilitates high level, progressive learning with an emphasis on leadership and character building. Through a combination of inquiry based learning and small group instruction, children develop a strong foundation across disciplines.

Teacher collaborate in a team teaching environment with lesson planning using the Project Approach in a constructivist classroom. Documentation, student assessment, classroom management with a strong emphasis on character education.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Candidate must be able to teach in a collaborative environment, as well as have strong technology skills to help reach and facilitate 21st Century Learning goals. Teachers must have experience with environmental studies and bringing the learning outdoors

Candidates must have a college degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, along with early childhood classroom experience and knowledge of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, strong classroom management skills, ability to team teach collaboratively, excellent organizational and communication skills along with a great sense of humor.

Salary & Benefits

Annual Starting Salary: $42,000 – $45,000
Additional Benefit Package Included.

Program Description

Elmhurst Academy is a private, independent Reggio Emilia inspired, early childhood school. For over 38 years, the academy has been educating children from birth through kindergarten. Our school year begins in September and ends in May; the academy also offers a summer session throughout the months of June, July and August.
In addition to NAEYC accreditation, Elmhurst Academy is also a certified Nature Explore School, an accreditation through the Arbor Day Foundation, as well as a Partnership for 21st Century Learning Exemplar School.
