Program Description

Acton Academy Jacksonville, a micro-school located in an inspiring natural environment in St. John’s County, Florida, opened its doors to children, parents and the community on September 4th, 2017. The founders are committed to the well-being of the children, families, and the people who are employed at the school.

We perceive children to be infinitely capable, creative and intelligent. We believe that each of us has a special calling in life, and a series of trials and tests that must be faced with integrity and purpose, to live a satisfying and fulfilled life. Our Guides (Teachers) support the children in developing these qualities and challenge them in developmentally-appropriate ways. The school’s motto summarizes our mission and image of each unique person throughout childhood: “Stay curious – with joy!”

Acton currently offers two studio spaces – Viva, for Early Childhood, and Explorer, for Early Elementary students. Viva is a 5-day, full-time program (8:45 – 3) for children who are 4 years old and part-time (8:45 – noon) for 3-year-olds. The Viva Studio responds organically to children’s interests and explorations, supporting their growth as individuals and members of a group. We celebrate this opportunity to share in the young child’s jubilant journey toward independence, confidence, and self-discovery.

The Explorer Studio is a 5-day, full-time program for 7-11 year-olds. In this studio, Guides (teachers) observe, reflect, and invite focused exploration and learning . Learners are challenged to ask questions, explore, solve problems, and make connections with others. The studio environment encourages independence, reflection, and responsibility as they Learn to Learn, Learn to Do, and Learn to Be. We celebrate this opportunity to share in the continuing Journey of our Explorers as they develop independence, confidence, and self-knowledge. Find a calling; change the world!

Our intention is to grow with the students, adding studios through high school. Ratios are planned at 10:1.
