Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

The College School, www.thecollegeschool.org, is an independent Preschool through Eighth Grade school in St. Louis, Missouri, with a focus on interdisciplinary, experiential, and outdoor education. We seek a competent, skilled, and passionate teacher who is a good fit for our unique learning community. We seek someone who is passionate about working with 4 to 5-year-old preschool students and who deeply believes that our youngest students are valuable contributors to our school and to society. The College School’s Early Childhood Program is influenced by the Reggio Emilia Approach.

The position involves:
Working with a co-teacher to guide, nurture, and love approximately 18-22 students

Collaborating with a teammate on the design and implementation of an engaging, age-appropriate, and experiential curriculum that is influenced by the Reggio Approach

Participating as a member of the larger preschool team

Actively participating in and contributing to the school’s broader professional community through meetings, committees, and professional development

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Applicants should have:
Experience teaching progressive and child-centered education in an Early Childhood school environment

Positive energy, strong communication skills, and plenty of time and energy to share with the children, parents, and colleagues of our dynamic learning community

Experience with or belief in the Reggio Emilia Approach

Degrees and certifications in related fields

A joyful attitude and approach towards teaching

Program Description

The College School engages children, ages three to fourteen, in joyful, meaningful and creative learning through an adventurous, theme-based, experiential curriculum. Our diverse community works as a partnership, cultivating excellence in academics, character and collaboration, as we prepare students for life-long learning, service and citizenship. Specialists include teachers of visual arts, performing arts (drama and music), Spanish, technology, greenhouse science and physical education. The early childhood program incorporates the Reggio philosophy, drawn from the internationally renowned schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. The College School owns 28 acres of property along the LaBarque Watershed, just 30 minutes away, for use as an extended campus for project study.
