The Family Annex Nursery School is located in the Upper West Side of Manhattan

Teachers are responsible for working collaboratively with a team to insure the social-emotional, physical and cognitive development of preschool children. Teachers plan and implement a program based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy and support the learning and interests of children while developing an appropriate curriculum for a long term process. Teachers provide a daily online blog for parents, write biannual progress reports on individual children and document the learning process. Teachers participate in staff meetings, take part in on-going professional development and plan and implement several curriculum evenings for families.
Successful candidates will:
Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education
Have experience working in an ECE setting
Have a deep understanding of the Reggio Emilia philosophy and experience in a Reggio inspired setting
Have experience collaborating and planning a curriculum based on children’s interests
Have experience documenting children’s work and be proficient in the use of technology
Have a receptivity to continued growth and development
Have a warm and kind demeanor, and excellent organizational and communication skills
Salary is commensurate with experience
The school operates using the NYC Dept of Education calendar which includes paid vacation days, holidays and 20 paid vacation days in August
Teachers are eligible to take tuition free courses at Columbia University
Medical and dental benefits are provided

Screening and interview will begin immediately. The hiring process will include interviews with the Director and a small group of current teachers. A demonstration lesson and time visiting the classroom will be a part of the process.
The Family Annex is a Reggio Emilia inspired preschool with three classrooms, a backyard and a studio. There is a class for 2’s, one for 3’s and one for 4’s.
We rely on the children’s interests to drive curriculum and long term projects. We provide a stimulating program that supports the social-emotional, physical and cognitive development of all children. (Ages 1.7-4.9) Classes are small with excellent child-teacher ratios. We are affiliated with Columbia University and many of our families are employed by Columbia. We have many wonderful outdoor spaces to explore and the children are able to take advantage of the parks in our neighborhood. All children are at the school five days per week which provides continuity and the ability to have strong ties with their peers and teachers.
