Teacher Leader for Nature-Based Preschool

ABOUT THE ROLE
Village is building preschools rooted in community, mindfulness, nature, and exploration. Our highest intention is for each of our little ones to leave us ready for a life filled with growth, gratitude, joy and discovery.

As part of our overarching vision, we are welcoming our inaugural class of children this fall for a nearly all-outdoors experience utilizing Brooklyn gorgeous outdoors space, primarily Prospect Park. Through our immersive outdoor nature program, we hope to develop children who are present in both their inner and outer worlds. We believe that a strong connection to nature builds a sense of curiosity and awe of the world in which we live in and creates a strong sense of gratitude, connection and respect for the Earth, self, and all beings.

In order to bring our vision to life, we are bringing on our Outdoor Exploration Teacher-Leader to help us build and steward our program and serve our families. The role will be located in Brooklyn, NY and will start in August 2020.

WHO YOU ARE
You’re an experienced educator with a big heart and big dreams. You believe in the power of Reggio, mindfulness, nature, equity, wellness in changing the world. You know that caregivers are a key piece of the puzzle and we must create space for them to grow and thrive.

You are excited about helping start a program from scratch and the mission to rethink what early childhood education can be. You know the challenges that may await us but understand that with aligned intentions and inspired action, we will bring our vision to fruition.

You are excited to work closely with our founder to bring the outdoor preschool component of our vision to life. You’re excited for your ideas to be heard and to collaboratively create the systems and structures for our program to thrive. You are also thrilled about learning more about your craft through Village-sponsored professional development opportunities.

With the Village vision and educational outcomes clearly defined, you’re thrilled to ensure those aspirations become reality. You do this by creating an incredible child-led experience for our little ones that honors their humanity, autonomy, and rights.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
You are excited by responsibilities that include: =

Serving as a teacher-leader.

Stewarding the effective and intentional implementation of a Reggio Emilia inspired and Montessori education anchored in conscious discipline, mindfulness, and wellness for approximately ten students.

Co-creating the systems, training, and structures for a successful school.

Co-managing parent engagement and communication.

Help hire, train, and coach assistant teacher as the program grows

Ensuring our guiding principles are embodied in all aspects of the program.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Here’s a specific picture of what we’re looking for, but do not take yourself out of the game! If you could see yourself in this role, we encourage you to apply. At the very least, synchronicities abound!

Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or a related field

Minimum of two years teaching experience in a preschool environment

Significant experience within a Reggio Emilia inspired or Montessori context

Passion for wellness, mindfulness, self-exploration and growth

Excellent interpersonal skills, especially written and verbal communication

A demonstrated ability appetite to lead, energize, and effectively delegate tasks among interdisciplinary work teams
