Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

Hanna Fenichel Center for Child Development in Solana Beach, California is a non-profit Reggio-inspired preschool seeking an Atelierista (Art and Outdoor Classroom teacher) for our Early Childhood program. The Atelierista brings unique artistic expertise to our learning community by expanding and deepening the ideas of young children through materials. Close collaboration between the Atelierista, Director, teachers, children, and parents provides the highest quality of experiences and expression.

Position Requirements:
Develops and coordinates the implementation of materials and their multiple languages for children ages 18 months – 5 years
Maintains a resourceful, safe studio space where children can explore materials and express their ideas openly
Assists in training classroom teachers in the development of environments and curriculum experiences, consistent with the Reggio Emilia Approach.
Designs and implements thought-provoking provocations for children in our outdoor space.
Utilizes Pedagogical Documentation
Helps maintain Garden Classroom facilities
Attends and participates in all staff meetings, and scheduled professional development days
Excellent communication skills and ability to present in public to both parents and other educators
Outstanding interpersonal skills
Problem solving, creativity, multitasking skills

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Education and Experience Required:
Experience as an artist or art teacher
Experience working in an educational setting (preferred)
Skilled in MAC programs, video, photography and editing programs
Bachelors degree preferred
Relevant experience in organic gardening/farming

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to stand, stoop, reach, and bend. The mobility of arms to reach, dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate large and small objects
Ability to stand for long periods
Ability to lift, push and/or pull objects (up to approximately 50 pounds)
Ability to work outdoors in San Diego climate

Daily documentation, reflection meetings, and reflection on children’s experiences are used as tools to deepen and extend learning.
