General Purpose and Function:
The Preschool Teacher exudes warmth, energy, and enthusiasm. A positive role model, s/he exhibits perseverance and a love of learning. S/he supports an inclusive, engaging, safe, caring learning community in the classroom that creates the essential foundation for social-emotional learning and the character development of our youngest students. Through differentiated and effective instruction, constructive feedback, and assessment, s/he intentionally works to inspire and motivate every student to reach grade-level and individual objectives.
Provide instruction and assessment in language arts, mathematics, and social studies
Plan and prepare units and lessons based upon the mission: school goals, discipline-specific goals, grade level objectives, and essential understandings
Analyze and revise grade-level curriculum during select faculty meetings, in-service days, and one week during the summer
Provide a safe and orderly classroom environment that is conducive to learning
Report on student progress through twice-yearly interim reports and end-of-term reports three times per year
Confer with parents at intake conferences and parent-teacher conference
Demonstrate proficiency with current technology as it relates to the learner and colleague and parent communication
Communicate student progress with parents and colleagues via informal conferences, phone, and email conversations
Clarify and uphold standards of behavior and good character for students
Provide for the safety and well-being of all students in the school at all times
Collaborate and plan with grade-level colleagues
Supervise assigned assistant teachers and meet regularly to assign tasks, solicit ideas, and to plan
Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Director
Assist with school-wide duties
Attend professional training and certification courses as required

Understanding of and a commitment to fostering character development and growth mindset in primary school students
Excellent organizational skills and communication skills with a variety of audiences (parent, student, faculty)
Proficiency in differentiating and individualizing instruction
Facility with educational technology and technology tools designed to support students with learning differences
At least three years of experience as a classroom teacher, preferably in independent schools at the lower elementary school level
Bachelor’s Degree required
