Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

The Scuola Italiana Enrico Fermi is Chicago’s only Reggio Emilia inspired, dual-language Italian preschool and kindergarten. The School is currently recruiting for a part time (15-20 hrs per week) School Principal.

The ideal candidate fully embraces the mission of the school as a dual language educational institution, rooted in the Reggio Emilia pedagogical approach. The desired candidate has significant prior experience in early childhood and elementary education and excellent interpersonal skills. The Principal reports to the President of the Board of Trustees maintaining an open line of communication with the Board.

The Principal is expected to: oversee daily operations and administration of the school, including recruitment, admissions, management of part time staff, and management of disciplinary issues; maintain relationships with families; oversee curriculum development and implementation in collaboration with the teachers; manage professional development opportunities for teachers; cultivate relationship with the community in view of the School’s potential growth;

The Principal will be expected to work occasional evening and weekend events such as school fairs and open houses.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Required Qualifications and skills:
Bachelor’s degree
At least 5 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in managing academic and school administration staff
Demonstrated knowledge of the Reggio Emilia Approach
Master’s degree
Experience in development, fundraising, and grant writing
Fluency in Italian

Program Description

Scuola Italiana Enrico Fermi is the first Italian American International school in the greater Chicago area. SIEF opened its early childhood education program with full day preschool in September of 2016. In 2018, SIEF initiated its first kindergarten class. Scuola Italiana Enrico Fermi plans to expand in subsequent year up through 8th grade. SIEF also offers multiple Community Enrichment Classes in Italian language and culture for infants through 8 year olds. Our outstanding, inquiry-based Reggio Emilia Inspired approach combine the Italian language and culture to bring a unique educational experience that will prepare them to better succeed in a global world.
