At the Carolina Friends Durham Early School we blend Reggio-inspired practices with our Quaker heritage. We find opportunities to align our Quaker values, mission, and pedagogy with our understanding of the fundamental principles of the Reggio-Emilia approach. Our image of the child reflects our belief in the uniqueness of each individual. We view children, teachers, and families as co-conspirators in reclaiming school as a place of joyful research. Our curriculum emerges from the interactions of teachers, children, families, and our unique context in the city of Durham.
Carolina Friends School is a vibrant and inclusive learning community empowering students to think critically, creatively, and independently. We foster active exploration and quiet reflection, individual endeavor and collaborative engagement. Inspired by Quaker values- pursuit of truth, respect for all, peaceful resolution of conflict, simplicity, the call to service- we teach our children that it is possible to change the world.
