Intown Playgroup is a licensed, parent cooperative playgroup, which children attend with an adult. We
enroll one- and two-year old children who gather for part of their day in the large open classroom,
socializing with and learning from one another. We have been a part of the Georgetown community for over 40 years.
At Intown Playgroup we recognize each child as a capable, unique and individual learner with different
needs, backgrounds, and stores of experiences. We use an emergent curriculum that develops when exploring what is “socially relevant, intellectually engaging, and personally meaningful to children.” Our
curriculum is negotiated between what interests the children and what we as adults know is necessary for
their education and development. This ensures that we always use developmentally appropriate practice.
At Intown we believe that children learn best through active play. We view play as a vital experience
through which children learn social, conceptual and creative skills, as well as increase their knowledge and
understanding of the world around them. Play also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children.
