After School Teacher

Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY

Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

A group of parents is looking for a teacher who can lead and facilitate an inquiry-based after school club one afternoon per week (preferably Tuesdays) for 2-3 hours throughout the school year. The teacher’s scope of work would be to:
• Take the children on periodic field trips to other neighborhoods in Brooklyn (Sunset Park, Crown Heights, Brighton Beach, etc.), Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Prospect Park, Prospect Park Zoo, other (in Brooklyn and elsewhere in NYC).
• Based on the children’s observations and interests spurred by the field trips, facilitate a process where the children agree on a topic that they want to explore.
• Facilitate the children’s study of the topic (and any other topics that come out of the original idea) through projects using science, art, music, literature, theater, etc.
• Assist the children in the presentation of their topic to parents and friends periodically.

Project Club is hosted by one of the families in their home in Park Slope.
