We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director with background in early childhood education to play a critical leadership role in our center. The Assistant Director will report to the center Director, and will partner effectively with the Board, Staff and Parents in support of our mission to provide top quality care and education for families in the community. This position is available immediately.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Staff Support:
• Assist the Director in hiring new teachers; Coordinate orientation and training
• Coordinate teacher scheduling; Substitute in classroom when coverage is needed
• Support teachers in developing curriculum and related classroom activities
• Provide coaching and professional development support to teachers
• Assist the Director with staff supervision; Observing in the classroom, meeting with teachers, writing staff evaluations
• Serve as first line of support to teachers for HR/personnel inquiries and issue resolution
• Support the Director and teachers in communicating with and providing support to Parents
Center Operations:
• Oversee daily operations and ensure that all policies and licensing regulations are followed
• Manage all fiscal operations of the center, including Payroll, Billing, A/P, A/R, Purchasing
• Manage center’s operating budget in partnership with Director and Board Treasurer
• Manage vendor relationships for professional services (brokers, advisors, bookkeeper);
• Provide oversight for general maintenance and upgrades of center’s physical space
Center Administration:
• Assume all critical responsibilities of the Director, in the Director’s absence
• Maintain complete, organized files for enrolled children; assist the Director in preparing appropriate documentation for licensing and accreditation
• Organize Board meetings, Staff meetings and social events; Maintain center calendar
• Manage center communications including website, distribution lists and postings
Skills / Competencies:
• Passion for children and early childhood education
• Excellent communication skills
• Highly versatile and embraces change; Enjoys variety from one day to the next
• Adept at managing challenges in a constructive and professional manner
• Commitment to continuous learning and personal / professional development
• Proficiency in MS Office Excel, PPT, Word, as well as QuickBooks or similar software
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
• Must be able to participate in all classroom activities, sit on the floor, stand for significant portions of the day, lift at least 40 pounds, and move quickly in the event of an emergency
Qualifications:
• EEC Director II certification; familiarity with Massachusetts D.E.E.C. state regulations
• 3+ years’ experience as Assistant Director, in a hands-on role managing a NAEYC accredited center
• B.A./B.S Early Childhood Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred
• Knowledge and experience in the Reggio Emilia philosophy highly preferred
