Assistant Director Williams College Children's Center (WCCC) The Williams College Children's Center offers developmentally appropriate experiences which mirror the College's mission: to educate toward the capacity to explore widely and deeply, think critically, reason empirically, express clearly, and connect ideas creatively. We support each child's journey toward his or her social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and aesthetic potential. Our collaborative team opens the world of learning and discovery to children by responding to their questions and explorations. The College is recruiting an Assistant Director to join our team dedicated to quality childcare and education as well as enthusiastically participating in staff inquiry and development. We seek an early care and education professional with compassion, great interpersonal skills, and experience with progressive programming, working from children and staff strengths. The Assistant Director collaborates with the Director to provide leadership and support to the WCCC staff, families, and children as well as developing curriculum and program quality. The collaboration of parents, teachers, staff, and the Williams College community creates a diversity of thinking, cultural understanding, and experience to inform our collective wisdom. This is a full-time, year-round, regular appointment. Responsibilities: • Oversight of the Infant/Toddler program or Preschool/ School Age program (depending on individual's experience and certification) • Collaborate on professional development opportunities and scheduling • Develop a responsive curriculum and project or exploratory learning • Administer the teacher certification process and professional development record keeping • Oversight of Mass Department of Early Education and Care health and safety protocols
Qualifications: • BA or BS in early childhood development, education or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred • Thorough knowledge of early education and care principles as well as a solid background in developmentally appropriate practice • A committed to working with diverse families and community members • Experience in an early childhood education supervisory or management role • Strong administrative background, keen organizational skills, and business acumen • Strong written and oral communications skills • Experience in teaching in an early childhood program at a head teacher or comparable position • EEC Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher, Preschool Lead Teacher and Director I or II qualification • A valid driver's license • Physical demands of this position are the ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds About the Children's Center The Williams College Children's Center has a warm and inviting program developed for early childhood education with an annual operating budget of $1.3 million. We are a department of Williams College reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. Our teachers create inspiring environments for learning in our state of the art center that includes playgrounds, hills, open spaces, woods, and gardens. The Children's Center serves the children of college and community families from the ages of six weeks through pre-school, as well as after-school for elementary-aged children. The Center also works with faculty members and students at the college who are interested in childhood development. We offer year-round, full-time and part-time programs, and are open from 8:00 AM to 5:15 PM. We have a full-time assistant director, administrative assistant, 18 teaching staff, and on-call substitutes serving six classrooms of infants, toddlers, pre-school and "out of school time" children.
