Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

The Becker School seeks a Director to begin duties in July 2024. The Director will inherit a respected, buoyant early childhood community where young children experience the wonders and value of child-centered learning in Reggio-inspired spaces. The Director reports to the Director of Lifelong Learning of Congregation Emanu El. The congregation’s Early Childhood Advisory Committee provides lay leadership support and oversight.

The new Director will warmly engage in daily touchpoints with children, teachers, and families while simultaneously focusing on Becker’s potential for augmented excellence.

These dual priorities require an experienced educator who can sensitively manage the tension between preserving the best of tradition and current practice while exploring the advantages of evidence-based innovation.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

The Director will have a record of successful leadership in a comparable position. This would include but is not limited to competence in the areas of:
*Teacher supervision
*Curriculum and instruction
*Budgeting and financial management
*Professional development
*Admissions and Enrollment
*Facilities and safety supervision
*Oral and written communication
*Parent and community relations

The ideal candidate will approach difficulties with optimism, agency, and good will; have extensive knowledge of the Reggio Emilia approach to education; and possess an advanced degree. Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $90-110,000, commensurate with experience and education. We are proud to offer generous compensation packages and benefits, including tuition discounts. Program Description

The Becker School is a thriving, joyful early childhood program in Houston, Texas. Becker serves children from fifteen months of age through kindergarten and is an essential link in the chain of lifelong learning at Congregation Emanu El, one of the largest Reform Jewish synagogues in the United States. The Becker School embraces the Reggio Emilia philosophy of education that encourages children to guide their own learning through exploration, discovery, and play. Becker’s thoughtfully curated classrooms and Reggio-inspired indoor and outdoor studio spaces nourish each child’s natural curiosity, creativity, collaborative spirit, and desire to learn. The study of Jewish values, holidays, Hebrew, and age-appropriate Jewish content enriches and fortifies the Becker experience. The Becker School is housed on the Congregation Emanu El campus and benefits from a close relationship with clergy, staff, and members of the congregation.
