Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

The Director of NPNS will maintain overall responsibility for administration of the Nursery School in accordance with the objectives and requirements established by the Board of Directors, the Session of Noroton Presbyterian Church (NPC), and the state licensing guidelines. The Director is a full member of the NPC Ministry staff and an employee of NPC and participates in regular
staff meetings.
The Director will be required to:

1. Lead the selection, development and implementation of NPNS,
Reggio Emilia inspired education philosophy and curriculum,
including integration of Christian Education as defined by the
NPNS Board and NPC Session.
2. Implement policies of the NPNS bylaws and conform to the Policy
and Staff Handbook of NPNS.
3. Report to the NPNS Board at each monthly meeting.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

1. Maintain regulatory compliance. Ensure health and safety guidelines are implemented and maintained. Enforce safety standards.
2. Serve as an ex-officio non-voting member of the Board of Directors, attend meetings and report regularly.
3. Handle details of the administration of the school.
4. Engage in a program of continuing professional growth.
5. Keep abreast of research and new developments in the field of early childhood education.
6. Plan yearly school calendar.
7. Supervise the management of classroom schedules.
8. Schedule the use of shared classroom and playground space and equipment.
9. Schedule the responsibilities of the teaching staff.
10. Create a school schedule that will include weekly chapel services, assisted by the Director of Children’s Ministry.
11. Operate the school within budget.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

SOLID FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST
EXPERIENCE AND ENTHUSIASM WORKING WITH STUDENTS ACROSS THE AGE RANGE OF NPNS CLASSES (2YR OLDS TO PRE- K).
EDUCATION: BACHELOR’S DEGREE, PREFERABLY IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND/OR RELATED ACADEMIC WORK.
3 + YEARS EXPERIENCE IN ADMINISTRATION OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAM, INCLUDING HIRING, SUPERVISING, AND MANAGEMENT OF STAFF.
ABILITY TO DEVELOP AND ADMINISTER TEACHER TRAINING.
COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF NATIONAL AND STATE EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS, LICENSING REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES AND FIRE AND HEALTH REGULATIONS.
MUST BE IN GOOD PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH AND BE WILLING TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITIES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SCHOOL’S EDUCATIONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL POLICIES AND STATE REGULATIONS.
ABILITY TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH AND IMPLEMENT NPNS CURRICULUM.
MUST HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF REGGIO EMILIA TEACHING PHILOSOPHY.
ABILITY TO DEVELOP AND WORK WITHIN A BUDGET.

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE IN CLASSROOM EDUCATION

CREATIVITY TO DEVELOP PROGRAMS, RESOLVE ISSUES
EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS, BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN
ABILITY TO BE IN TUNE WITH STAFF, CHILDREN AND PARENTS TO IDENTIFY NEEDS AND DEVELOP PROGRAMS TO MEET NEEDS
INITIATIVE AND ENERGY SUFFICIENT TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A HIGH-QUALITY PROGRAM
ABILITY TO RESPOND TO PARENTS’ EXPRESSED CONCERNS AND BALANCE THOSE WITH THE ABILITY OF THE NURSERY SCHOOL STAFF TO RESPOND
ABILITY TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH NPC STAFF, AND TO FOSTER POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NPC AND THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Program Description

Noroton Presbyterian Nursery School (NPNS) is a preschool in Darien, CT serving children aged 2- Pre-K. The director is responsible for directing, coordinating and leading all aspects of the nursery school’s operation. (S)he will develop, implement and oversee an innovative and high quality Reggio Emilia inspired Christian educational program designed to nurture a life-long love of learning, and to prepare children for kindergarten and elementary school.
