Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

We seek a new full-time Director with the preferred start date of Fall 2016. Our current Director, Alise Shafer Ivey, plans to retire in June 2017 after 34 years of leadership during which time the school has thrived and grown into a nationally recognized early childhood education program. During the 2016-17 school year Alise will co-direct with new Director in order to ensure a smooth transition. We seek a new Director who has the leadership qualities to both honor and sustain our legacy and guide the vision for the future of the school.

Key areas of responsibility:
• Act as the pedagogical leader of the school including the facilitation of daily staff meetings, video analysis sessions and the oversight of documentation

• Embrace and be able to clearly articulate and execute the school’s social constructivist approach

• Work directly with children 2.5 years to 5-years and their families on a daily basis

• Organize intensive practicums for groups of national and international educators

• Oversee parent committees

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

• Strong leadership and management experience, including teaching experience and staff supervision

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work closely and sensitively with children, teachers, parents, community and board of directors

• Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university
