Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Seeking a director/master teacher who is progressive in his or her thinking and transformational in their actions to lead an innovative program children ages 3-5. A program that is dedicated to providing children with the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to be successful in school and in life. To that end, the candidate must know, understand and be able to do the following: provide overall programatic and administrative leadership for a high quality early childhood lab school serving 40 children; support and implement a child-centered, inquiry and play-based program that values and honors the diversity of its children and families, serve as an exemplary model of teaching excellence and reflective practice as a part time teacher and teacher developer. Supervise and support teaching teams, resident teachers, and college students engaged in a practicum experience. Adjunct faculty position possible

 

Master’s degree in early childhood education or a related field with a minimum of five successful years of teaching experience with children ages 3-5. demonstrated leadership and administrative abilities. Knowledge of the principles and practices of reggio educators including a dynamic and robust approach to curriculum development and implementation. exhibit competencies that are consistent with the lab school aims which are to support and facilitate the development of children who are curious, smart and self-confident:
Curious—as in a keen interest to learn and know about things; smart—as in very good at learning to think about things; self-confident–as in being curious about self and others

Program Description

the udc early childhood lab school is a reggio-inspired, year-round program that serves 3-5 year old children who are racially, ethnically and economically diverse.
the program focuses on program elements that include the environment as the third teacher, children using multiple symbols to represent knowledge, a negotiated approach to curriculum through explorations and investigations, documentation as a tool for describing processes, recording history and a vehicle for public accountability. The lab school serves as a model early childhood demonstration site for the city and thus has frequent visitors from within and outside of the university commumity
