Who We Are
Ventana is a Reggio Emilia-inspired, Episcopal school that welcomes families of different cultural and religious backgrounds. Ventana is located at Christ Episcopal Church in Los Altos which shares its peaceful and natural environment, serving to awaken children’s natural inclination to explore the world around them.
Ventana opened its preschool program in 2005 and expanded its operation in 2010 to include an elementary school. The school serves 160 families in its preschool through fifth grade program. Investigations are currently under way to expand our school through eighth grade.
In-depth study and project work emerge from a tapestry of children’s ideas as well as teacher invitations and questions. At Ventana, children discover ideas that are enhanced by collaboration, tested by negotiation, and given clear voice through presentation. Children are inspired to think, inquire, and invent by becoming listeners, negotiators, and leaders.
Students engage in multi-disciplinary design thinking and the investigation of big ideas. Children collaborate on projects and use the creative arts as languages for thinking, expressing ideas, and telling stories. Social emotional learning lies at the heart of our program. Ventana supports learning in both multi-age and single-grade classrooms as well as by collaboration among classrooms.
Our Mission
Ventana is an Episcopal school that values innovation and tradition. We educate the whole child: intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually. We inspire children to have inquiring and discerning hearts, the courage to will and persevere, and the joy and wonder needed fully to appreciate our ever-changing world. We nurture a community in which creativity, imagination, and the spirit of learning thrive.
