Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

A General Responsibilities
● Articulate the vision of the school and its future to internal and external constituents
● Provide leadership for setting overall goals and curriculum objectives
● Represent the school to all of its constituents, including students, families, teachers, staff and community
● Oversee daily operations of the school
● Coordinate internal and external communications
● maintain standards that are required by NYC Dept of Health and accrediting organization

B Personnel Responsibilities
● Use collaborative process to select and hire staff and teachers
● Evaluate and supervise all personnel
● Plan inservice training with staff
● Coordinate and lead staff development activities
– Weekly meetings with entire staff
– Classroom observations
– Regular meetings with teaching teams
– Plan staff development days
● keep personnel records
● Conduct administrative evaluation process and plan for own professional growth
● Update and maintain a staff handbook
● Provide process for staff dismissal

C Board of Trustees
● Work closely with and report directly to the Board of Trustees
– Serve as exofficio member and attend all Board meetings and functions
– Keep Board president informed of all aspects of school operations
– Bring to Board’s attention any issues that may require board’s action or approval
– Communicate Board policies and changes to teachers and staff, as appropriate.
– Serve as a resource to the Board in developing new policies and initiatives

D Enrollment
● Coordinate admissions process with Admissions Director
● Lead fall orientation meeting for applicants
● Speak with prospective parents
● Observe and assess child applicants
● Work with Admissions Director on admissions decisions

E Exmissions
● Oversee applications to and placements in a diverse range of public and private ongoing schools.
● Orient parents as to the exmissions process
● Counsel parents throughout the exmissions
process by maintaining an open line of communication and advice with them.
● Communicate with ongoing schools and engage in dialogs with relevant Admissions Directors
● Review and edit teacher reports to ongoing schools
● Maintain a database to monitor individual children through the exmissions process
● Aim to place each child in the ongoing school to which he or she is best suited, while balancing the interests of families and the needs of ongoing schools

F Community and Parent Involvement
● Welcome parent body at a general meeting in September
● Participate in PA sponsored activities and contribute to the PA Newsletter
● Confer with and counsel parents
● Lead parenting sessions
● Coordinate with consulting psychologist
● Prepare and maintain current a Parent Handbook
● Participate in obtaining special educational services for enrolled children
● Participate in team meetings that involve SEITs and other special ed personnel
● Maintain membership and communication with NYSAIS and ISAAGNY – attend meetings and participate in setting goals and standards for the organization
● Maintain membership with Early Steps, NAEYC, ATIS and the Parents League
● Maintain membership with NAREA
● Communicate and cooperate with All Souls Church Administration

G Budget and Finance
● Supervise the business manager/bookkeeper in preparation of the preliminary and final budget
● Oversee expenditures and the collection of tuition and related fees
● Serve on the Scholarship Committee
● Provide Board with data regarding general trends in tuition and salary decisions of other schools in our area
● restructure the staff salary scale and write contracts
● Serve as TIAA/CREF liaison
● Provide necessary materials for yearly audit
● Update insurance policies

H Physical Facilities, Equipment, and Safety
● Supervise the overall safety and upkeep of the school’s physical building and equipment
● Liaise directly with the Church regarding facilities upkeep and maintenance and any necessary renovations
● Oversee and evaluate the performance of outside contractors
● Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment
● Supervise the custodian and janitorial help
● Keep records of purchase information and related literature
● Maintain and update technological equipment as needed

A Qualifications
● Advanced degree in ECE
● Experience as a classroom teacher in ECE classes
● Experience in a senior administrative role in an educational institution

B Skills and Attributes
● Articulated philosophy of education
● Comprehensive knowledge of recent developments in the field
● Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
● Proven leadership abilities
● Excellent judgement and proven decision making ability
● Strong work ethic, dependable, consistent
● Flexible good listener, available.
