The Stroum JCC in Seattle, WA is looking for an Interim Head of School. This individual must have a passion for education and an ability to embrace the mission and vision of the SJCC and Early Childhood School while promoting high standards of teaching and a favorable learning environment for children. The Interim Head of School will need to embody the SJCC’s values, and will need to build strong relationships with the Early Childhood School’s Leadership team, parents and teachers, to ensure the smooth functioning of the school. This individual will be caring, creative, respectful, and perceptive with a deep sensitivity to the education and emotional well-being of our students and their families. This individual will need to be incredibly responsive to ensure the highest level of communication and help oversee the management of the day to day functioning of the school.
The Interim Director will supervise the ECS Leadership Team to ensure the daily needs of the school are being met. The Interim Director will also need to promote cooperation, participation, and harmony with the faculty and convey a sense of collegiality and professionalism.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To ensure that all operations of the Early Childhood School maintain the highest levels of performance. The Interim ECS Director is responsible for:

 Leading and guiding the ECS Leadership team, faculty and staff in supporting the vision and goals of the Early Childhood School and the SJCC strategic plan, with a particular emphasis on strengthening community.
 Creating a partnership relationship with families and children, and be available as a resource for consultation and guidance.
 Hiring and disciplinary process, with support from the ECS Assistant Director.
 Ensuring that all new and returning faculty are oriented and trained appropriately to consistently deliver the highest quality early childhood education by SJCC and ECS standards.
 Ensuring that classrooms are adequately staffed and that the ECS faculty-to-child ratios are observed at all times, including staffing of the classrooms if needed.
 Ensuring compliance with all licensing standards.
 Assuming opening and closing duties in the ECS program.
 Assuming responsibilities as assigned for SJCC community events.
 Meeting on a regular basis with the Mercer Island Leadership Team and the entire ECS Leadership Team.
 Communicating with families, teachers, and other SJCC departments in a timely and situation-appropriate fashion, whether via emails, phone calls, or meetings; resolving any conflicts effectively and maturely.
 Ensuring follow up on feedback from parent surveys in consultation and collaboration with the ECS Leadership team.
 Overseeing and managing the departmental budget, ensuring all purchases are in fiscal alignment.
 Assisting in marketing the program and recruitment of new families.
 Performing other duties and assuming additional responsibilities as needed.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in administration and leadership in an educational or agency setting.
 Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to respond effectively to constructive criticism and give constructive feedback to ECS Leadership Team.
 Strong customer-service orientation with specific strength in diplomacy and discretion.
 Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team with other faculty, staff members, and parents/guardians.
 Demonstrated leadership qualities and the ability to build a cohesive team.
 Strong organizational skills and ability to be punctual, set appropriate priorities, and meet deadlines.
 Ability to be discrete, flexible, and maintain confidential information whenever necessary.
