POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Kindergarten Teacher has full responsibility for teaching all content areas to a classroom of students in an interdisciplinary way.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Teach core content to kindergarten students as assigned. We currently use Words Their Way, the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, Units of Study for Primary Writing, and envision Math to guide our planning and scope and sequence of learning.
• Design a developmentally appropriate curriculum that has the project approach, emergent curriculum, and Reggio-inspired practices as a foundation for classroom work.
• Write daily/weekly lesson plans.
• Evaluate and document the growth and development of each five- and six-year old and plan activities to facilitate further growth and development.
• Regularly reflect on the effectiveness of lesson implementation, activities, assignments, assessments, etc.
• Collaborate with the associate teacher through weekly planning meetings.
• Maintain the classroom environment to support the curriculum.
• Instruct and assess with a positive and growth-producing approach.
• Collaborate with grade level teams to provide a well-linked and integrated learning experience through weekly grade team meetings.
• Participate in parent/teacher conferences.
• Write individualized conference notes and student reports for each student at required periods during the year.
• Maintain frequent contact with parents.
• Maintain a website presence of classroom learning.
• Complete required H.R. trainings each year (CPR, first aid, mandatory reporting, handling of hazardous materials, etc.).
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn by participating in staff development sessions and/or pursue workshops/training.
• Serve on committees and engage in professional group work as necessary.
• Participate in Admission Open House and all other required school events.
• Supervise lunch, recess, and carpool as required.
• Engage in school-wide traditions (e.g. Habitat Celebration).
• Attend and support after-school activities and programs (e.g. Open House, concerts, and class programs).
• Support the School’s commitment to diversity and multicultural education.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues in the ECLC and across divisions.
• Plan vertical curriculum with colleagues in the ECLC, Lower School and across divisions.
• Perform other duties as assigned to promote the care and growth of our young children and their families.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise students in the classroom, at recess, in the Dining Commons, travelling between buildings, and on classroom field trips.
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS
• Utilize strong interpersonal communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Maintain daily contact with administrators, colleagues, and other staff.
• Demonstrate a professional attitude and behavior.
• Be available for intermittent contact with the Board of Trustees.

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS
As we develop 21st century learners and thinkers, these are some of the approaches to classroom work that we value. We are seeking candidates who have a working knowledge of these approaches and a strong desire to teach this way:
• Practices that are developmentally appropriate for the age and stage of the children
• Implementation of a balanced literacy program for emergent readers
• Knowledge of core math standards that are practiced with hands-on methods
• Utilization of the project approach and/or emergent curriculum guidelines as a means to fully develop student interests, practice age-appropriate skills, and generate an excitement for learning
• Reflective planning with an associate teacher and others on the kindergarten team that seeks to balance both the need to develop a strong academic foundation and a focus on student interest and how learning emerges from those interests.
• Demonstrate energy, empathy, flexibility, and collaboration.
• Maintain good organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of three years experience in early childhood education.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Primarily indoor and outdoor classroom teaching with occasional field trips
• Some evening and weekend commitments
• Outside travel is required multiple times per day to related arts classes and other school buildings.
