Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

As a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher at Weekday School, you will play a crucial role in fostering young children’s intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development. You will create a dynamic and nurturing learning environment that aligns with the Reggio Emilia philosophy, promoting exploration, creativity, and independent thinking. Your primary responsibility is to support each child’s unique development and curiosity while working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the school community.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:
Design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the Reggio Emilia approach.
Create engaging learning experiences that encourage exploration, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Foster a love for learning and a sense of wonder in young children.

Individualized Learning:
Observe and assess each child’s strengths, interests, and developmental needs.
Tailor instruction to meet individual learning goals and adapt to diverse learning styles.
Encourage self-directed learning and decision-making among students.

Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan and execute interdisciplinary projects and activities.
Maintain open and regular communication with parents, sharing insights into children’s progress and development.
Collaborate with other educators to create a cohesive and supportive learning community.

Documentation and Assessment:
Document children’s learning experiences through photos, videos, and written observations.
Use documentation to reflect on and assess children’s progress and to inform curriculum planning.
Share documentation with parents and colleagues to engage them in the learning process.

Contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture that respects diversity and fosters a sense of belonging.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Previous experience in a Reggio Emilia or progressive education setting is highly desirable.

Strong knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Creativity, flexibility, and a passion for early childhood education.

Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
