Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

We are seeking a Reggio Emilia-trained Lead Teacher to guide a small, mixed-age preschool classroom beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. This is a wonderful opportunity for a thoughtful educator who values child-led learning and would enjoy helping shape a new, intentional preschool program grounded in Reggio Emilia principles, respect for development, and connection to nature.
The Lead Teacher will guide a small group of preschool children (approximately ages 3–6) within a Reggio Emilia-aligned classroom, fostering independence, curiosity, and concentration through purposeful work and thoughtful observation. Teachers at the Schoolhouse are encouraged to use careful observation as a primary teaching tool, allowing each child’s developmental path to inform lessons and classroom rhythm.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain a beautiful, organized prepared environment
  • Support the development of independence, concentration, and self-directed learning
  • Use observation to guide lessons and support each child’s developmental path
  • Foster a calm, respectful classroom community
  • Communicate regularly with families about student growth and classroom life
  • Collaborate with school leadership to help shape a thoughtful new program
  • Incorporate outdoor learning and nature exploration as part of the daily rhythm

    Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

    • Experience working in a Reggio Emilia or child-centered preschool classroom
    • Strong understanding of the Reggio Emilia philosophy and mixed-age learning
    • Warm, calm presence with strong classroom leadership
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
    • Passion for nurturing independence, curiosity, and joyful learning

    Little Red Schoolhouse of Milford is a child-centered preschool program rooted in Reggio Emilia principles, emphasizing independence, curiosity, and respect for each child’s developmental path within a mixed-age classroom.Our program prioritizes a carefully prepared environment where children can engage deeply with their work and develop concentration, confidence, and joy in learning. While Reggio Emilia philosophy guides the foundation of the program, the Schoolhouse also draws inspiration from other child-led approaches when appropriate to support the needs of each child. Learning unfolds in a calm, respectful environment, where structure and routine serve as supportive tools. The Schoolhouse also embraces nature-based learning, considering the outdoors a natural extension of the classroom whenever possible within the realities of the local environment.
