REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
The Katherine Michiels School (KMS) Preschool Program is looking for a bright, energetic teacher for our progressive program, which is strongly influenced by the Reggio-Emilia approach. The KMS Preschool program is mixed-age for 2 to 4 year olds, and is an age appropriate approach that takes into account each child and his or her unique developmental process. Our goal is to create an empowering environment that will enable every child to express and fulfill the potential of his/her abilities and interests, and to ensure that the variety of experiences covers all developmental domains: emotional, social, cognitive, fine and gross motor, and language skills.
The program is staffed with dedicated, creative, qualified teachers to guide and support each child in a respectful manner. During the day, there is time for both scheduled and structured activities and plenty of free play time and exploration.
Preschool teachers’ duties :
· To be familiar with the Reggio Emilia approach and be eager to learn from world-class representatives of the approach and to implement it in the classroom.
· Maintain documentation of students’ development as a tool for pedagogical and professional work.
· Teach through projects that encompass a variety of curricular areas and utilize the Omnibus Guidelines to incorporate relevant skills and concepts into project work.
· Develop clear and positive structures, expectations, and routines in the classroom to optimize child development and consistent learning.
· Prepare DRDP and Omnibus Guideline Developmental Profiles for 2, 3, and 4 year olds and meet with parents to discuss children’s progress.
· Participate in collaborative teacher preparation as a member of a team.
· Demonstrate project progress and documentation at daily meetings with colleagues and the Preschool Program Director.
· Participate in activities that capitalize on KMS philosophy and approach. Utilize teacher planning time appropriately.
· Articulate, monitor and assess individual professional development needs and goals with the Program Director.
· Collaborate effectively with families and staff. Maintain consistent, ongoing, constructive communication with families and co-workers.
It is expected that KMS teachers will:
· Be on time, ready to teach, in their designated area.
· Follow the Policies and Practices in the Employee Handbook.
· Attend meetings as appropriate including weekly and monthly staff meetings as well as various evening parent meetings.

· Collaborate with their peers to develop the program according to KMS Philosophy and Core Values.

· See choice as an important learning strategy and life tool for students.
· View teachers, children, and parents as three partners in the educational system.
· Understand the importance of the social and emotional development of students.
· Are open to feedback and willing to carry out suggestions and/or directions from the Director.
· Are flexible enough to follow the spontaneous aspect of our curriculum.
· Communicate directly with all partners–Directors, Teachers, Parents, Children.
· Create deep relationships with each child.
· Participate in all school training and professional development activities.
· Share issues from class life with Directors and Teachers and be open to feedback.
· View professional development as one of their roles as teachers.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
· Minimum 1 year teaching experience working with 2-4 year olds

THE PROGRAM IS STAFFED WITH DEDICATED, CREATIVE, QUALIFIED TEACHERS TO GUIDE AND SUPPORT EACH CHILD IN A RESPECTFUL MANNER. DURING THE DAY, THERE IS TIME FOR BOTH SCHEDULED AND STRUCTURED ACTIVITIES AND PLENTY OF FREE PLAY TIME AND EXPLORATION.
