Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

Ventana School is currently seeking passionate and committed preschool teachers who can support children’s play, exploration, inquiry, and creative/critical thinking for children 2, 3, 4 or 5 years old. Immediate placement in a team-teaching situation in our 4-year old class is possible. Hours are 8:30-2:00 Monday through Friday. Summer hours are also available to those who wish to work.

 

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Preschool teachers in our two, three, four and five-year old classrooms are expected to create a democratic, creative environment in which meaningful learning and personal growth are fostered through a variety of active learning experiences. Our team teaching model is one in which both teachers contribute fully and equally to the development of the Reggio classroom environment. This means observations, implementation of project work, and documentation are planned as a collaborative team. Professional learning opportunities, reflective practice, and personal growth are all part of the Ventana experience.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with teaching team
  • Develop project work through thoughtful reflection on student interest and topic

    engagement

  • Establish and communicate clear expectations for students around respect, collaboration,

    participation, community-building and problem-solving

  • Work with students in a democratic environment by modeling good citizenship, critical and

    creative thinking, and responsibility as a classroom/school community member.

  • Provide developmentally appropriate opportunities for individual and small group

    investigation and skill-building in literacy and mathematics

  • Demonstrate depth of knowledge of child development relevant to students ages and stages
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written skills in daily, weekly and other required

    communication with parents

  • Maintain positive communication with both parents and children at all ages
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members resolving health,

    attitude, and/or learning problems

  • Create an attractive and effective environment for learning through daily provocations

    and/or invitations, intentional presentation of materials, guided hands-on learning opportunities, and producing documentation for public display

  • Invest in pedagogical professional development beyond what is provided by Ventana, including but not limited to conferences, on-line coursework, local Reggio Roundtables
  • Preserve and uphold the core values of the school Qualifications
  • Applicants must have at least 12 units in ECE/CD; 24 units is preferred.
  • An AA or BA in early childhood, human development or related field is preferred.
  • 2 years of teaching experience preferred (but not required).

Salary & Benefits

Benefits include pension, health, and life insurance. Hourly rate of pay is commensurate with education and experience.

Program Description

Ventana School offers a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool and elementary program. Our school currently serves children 2 years old through 5th grade and is rapidly expanding. Ventana School promotes experiences that build a child’s relationship with his/her community and with the natural world through the use of varied materials and resources as “languages” of expression. Our School is a place where learning becomes a joint venture between children and teachers and where learning happens within the context of childhood. We practice project-based teaching and learning at all levels of learning.
