Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

The Scuola Italiana Enrico Fermi is Chicago’s only Reggio-Emilia inspired, dual-language Italian preschool and kindergarten. The School is currently recruiting for a School Director position, which will begin as a part-time position (15-20hrs per week), with the possibility to grow into a full time position. The Director will be expected to work occasional evening and weekend events such as school fairs and open houses.

The ideal candidate is steeped in the pedagogy of the Reggio Emilia approach; has a deep respect and love for children and views them as individuals; has knowledge and understanding of child development; serves as the public face of the school; is motivated by participating in the school’s growth; and has excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with children, parents, School’s faculty, and the Board of Trustees. The Director is responsible for program development aimed at growing the school and will continually hone the program for excellence and be responsible to the community. The ideal candidate is able to work with the School’s Board to articulate the vision for the school’s growth and connect to external opportunities to promote the educational profile of the school and is responsible for leading the growth and development of the school. The Director will oversee the management of school administration, including part time staff and teachers.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Required Qualifications and skills:

Bachelor’s degree
At least 5 years of relevant work experience
Demonstrated experience in managing academic and school administration staff
Demonstrated knowledge in the Reggio Emilia Approach
Demonstrated experience in public speaking
Proven ability to manage staff and work collaboratively with parents, Board and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Early Child Education or Business Administration
Master’s degree
Experience in development, fundraising, and grant writing
Fluency in Italian

SIEF currently offers the following programs:

A full time Reggio Emilia inspired Preschool for 3 & 4 years old, with rolling enrollment throughout the year. The 2018-2019 year will feature the school’s first Kindergarten class!

A weekly Italian Playgroup for children 0 to 3 year olds.

A Saturday language & culture class for children 3 & 4 who cannot attend our full time Preschool and 5 & 7 years old who want to enhance their language skills learning to read and write in Italian.
