Description, Responsibilities, & Duties

We are looking for several staff members for our K-5th-grade students. Titles include Assistant Teacher, Teaching Associate, and Teacher/Researcher. Responsibilities are varied dependent on level of experience and professional goals.

A Teacher Assistant at our school supports Associate and Lead Teachers and their students in day-to-day classroom operations. They assist with clerical duties, student support, and day to day delivery of curriculum. They also provide clean-up, set-up, and materials management.

As a Teaching Associate on the pathway to becoming a Teacher/Researcher you will, under the guidance of a Teacher/Researcher, understand, and put into practice progressive education theory and the Voyagers’ Approach to teaching; Assist in developing curriculum maps, class descriptions, student narratives, portfolio posts, informational articles, and other written materials; Develop instructional subject and project materials, and apply innovative ideas to make learning flexible and enjoyable; and more.

As a Teacher/researcher you will Plan and implement effective instruction and assessment driven by student inquiry and aligned with Voyagers’ Approach.
Collaborate with students, families, and colleagues in support of our community.
Record and share student learning and experiences through documentation, narratives, and consistent Seesaw posts.
Lead the development of classroom cultures that foster relationships, student learning, student inquiry, and critical thinking.
Facilitate Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences.
Advocate with and on behalf of students and families.
Implement restorative practices to address conflict.
Attend and engage in weekly staff meetings, professional development, and professional collaboration, etc.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Assistant Teacher – High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Some coursework in the field of education including college, professional development, certification, or related studies.
Proven ability to work with children as a longterm babysitter, nanny, camp counselor, youth leader, or other related job or volunteer service.

Associate Teacher – Coursework toward a Bachelor’s Degree with plan for completion; Basic understanding of childhood development and steps to support children through various ages; Experience and passion for working with children; Warm, nurturing, creative, and engaging disposition.

Teacher/researcher – Prior experience working with children preferred, 4 year college degree, Experience or knowledge of the Reggio Emilia and Constructivist Approach to teaching, and Understand Project Based learning.
