Design Thinking: A Responsibility of Educators

Zoom Livestream • November 11-13, 2026

Featuring:

Daniela Lanzi, pedagogista
Daniela Lanzi, pedagogista

Lanzi is a pedagogista whose career has been closely tied to the early childhood education system of Reggio Emilia. Beginning in 1985 as an educator at the municipal Gianni Rodari infant-toddler center in Reggio Emilia, she went on to earn a degree in pedagogy from the University of Parma in 1990.

In 1996, Lanzi became a pedagogista within the pedagogical coordination team of the Istituzione of Preschools and Infant-toddler Centers of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia. From 2004 to 2010, she coordinated a project for exchange and professional learning among educational experiences—spanning infant-toddler centers, preschools, and integrated services—as part of a convention between the Emilia Romagna Region and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia involving 35 municipal, state, cooperative, and private early years centers.

She also represented the pedagogical coordination team of the Istituzione of Preschools and Infant-toddler Centers of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia within several bodies, including the pedagogical coordination of the Province of Reggio Emilia, the municipality's Observatory of Families, and the project group of City Social Services.

Currently, Lanzi is responsible for the Complex Organization Unit of the Istituzione of Preschools and Infant-toddler Centers of Reggio Emilia Municipality and is pedagogista for the Nilde Iotti municipal preschool and the Agorà Parents' Association.

For Reggio Children, Lanzi collaborates on projects involving publishing, exhibitions, and professional learning, both in Italy and abroad, participating in seminars and workshops internationally. She is also part of the F.A.C.E. (Becoming an Educational Community) project work group, developed in collaboration with the Fondazione Reggio Children–Loris Malaguzzi, which involves schools in Reggio Emilia, Teramo, and Palermo.

Milena Zanti, teacher
Milena Zanti, teacher

Zanti was born in Casalgrande, in the province of Reggio Emilia. She earned her diploma as an educator in 1980 and began her career that same year, working for eight years across infant-toddler centers and preschools throughout the Province of Reggio Emilia. During this time, she taught in classrooms and also gained brief experience as a support teacher for children with special rights.

In 1988, Zanti became a teacher in the municipal preschools of Reggio Emilia, a role she held for the rest of her career. She became part of the Balducci Preschool in 1992 where she remained until her retirement.

Throughout her career, Zanti has collaborated with Reggio Children on professional development projects at the local, regional, and international levels, contributing to study groups in Reggio Emilia and speaking at conferences around the world, including in the UK, Australia, South Korea, and Peru. In each of these settings, she has drawn on her long-standing experience as a preschool teacher, adapting her insights to the different countries and educational contexts she has encountered.
