Hosting Mosaic

Hosting the Mosaic of Marks, Words, Material Exhibition

What to Expect

NAREA’s management of the Mosaic exhibition + atelier on behalf of Reggio Children and Istituzione offers North American communities the opportunity to deepen Reggio-inspired work locally. We partner with hosts throughout their hosting period to support them in making the most of their time with the exhibition. Here, we offer a birds-eye view of the hosting experience from start to finish.

This exhibition follows children as they interact with a rich variety of diverse materials, inventing strategies and narratives with one another over time. It represents the power of drawing, mark-making, materials, words, narratives, and relationships in learning. A highlight of this exhibition is a host-created, interactive atelier, which offers a creative studio space welcoming children and adults to meet materials and ideas directly.

Call for Proposals

Accepting Proposals for 2029–2031

We are currently accepting proposals to host the Mosaic of Marks, Words, Material exhibition + atelier in North American communities. The proposal guidelines offer a template for the necessary content to include in a proposal.

Professional Learning

NAREA & Host Develop Projections

Hosts have ideas for the many ways the presence of the exhibition + atelier will contribute to their community. Professional learning projections are developed in collaboration with NAREA who maintains a close coordination with Reggio Children. Some hosts collaborate with NAREA and Reggio Children to plan and organize a NAREA conference, which includes the presence of Reggio Children representatives paid for by NAREA.

Contract & Insurance

Host Costs

Rental fee is $28,000 for 5 1/2 months hosting period. At the time of contract signing, which usually occurs 6 months before exhibit is due to arrive, host chooses to pay 50% of the total rental fee, with the remaining 50% due 60 days after receiving the exhibition + atelier, OR the full rental fee. As part of the contract agreement, hosts will insure the exhibition’s physical value of $50,000.

Fundraising & Budget

A Realistic Budget is Essential

Every host’s circumstances and plans are unique. Therefore, budgets will differ. Exhibition budgets can include, among other items: exhibition rental, insurance, shipping, venue, security, promotion, installation/deinstallation, repairs, atelier materials. Many hosts find ways and relationships to support their needs through fundraising and/or donations of spaces and services. Previous hosts are always a collegial source of support and information.

Venue & Layout

Host is Responsible for Providing an Approved Venue

Host is responsible for providing an approved venue for the exhibition + interactive atelier that permits visitor access without a fee. The minimum size is ~1,500 square feet, although larger, aesthetically interesting atriums, galleries, or museums are ideal. Once a venue has been chosen, Reggio Children designers will tailor a layout for your venue that supports the installation of the complete exhibition + atelier.
